A new name on Tectonic, Author (Jack Sparrow and Ruckspin) makes a bold statement of intent with this superb single on Pinch's label. "The City" is a brilliant balls-out dancefloor track with pounding syncopated drums, shuffling rhythms, grinding bass and buckets of energy. Layers of synths add just the right amount of euphoria to the weighty bass heavy undercurrent. Accompanying this is "Teacher", which is perhaps more characteristic of the Tectonic sound - deep, dark, oily basslines weave around a crackling reggae vocal sample and the occasional cowbell chime. Superb from start to finish, we await the forthcoming Author album with great anticipation.
