Having debuted with the sounds of mystery producer Laak back in October last year Underground Quality offshoot Austere returns with the Bouvet island resident once again at the helm! As with the inaugural release, the four tracks here centre on the raw, underground house sound - commencing with the slick punchy "Back of Beyond" which is driven by some typically searching chord patterns and multi faceted drum programming. "Don't Ever Leave" provides a gentler counterpart, delivering a sombre tone via the liquid Rhodes effects that flutter around. The B Side brings the future abstract vibes on "Cosmic Causeway" with skittering arrangements complemented by synth patterns that sparkle with colour and verve, before ascending into a glorious final movement of shimmering melodies and gently insistent beats. "Cantankerous Emotions" heads to the depths of sultry deep house to round off this EP in reverberant piano flourish territory.
