Fledgling Danish label Teal continue their mission statement to release interesting music regardless of genre. Their third release sees them turn to fellow Copenhagen resident Tobias Pedersen, who operates under the mysterious Beastie Respond moniker. "Syncopy" will draw obvious comparisons with Non Plus figureheads Instra:mental for its clear deviations into the slower, deep, mind altering end of the drum and bass spectrum. Amidst the sparse, crackling array of percussive rhythms and devious industrial textures there's a dubby warmth to the swing that adds a unique touch, whilst the overall tone sits just the right side of melancholia. Further kudos is awarded to Teal for enlisting Blawan to remix the track, with the R&S/Hessle lynchpin naturally embellishing proceedings with his own devious array of layered drum sounds whilst dragging the source material down a decidedly darker sonic corridor.
