Ice - "Time Will Tell" |
Supafrico continues to excite with a second volume of rare Afro-beat jams from Okyerema Asante, Kio Amachree, Amas Grill and Ice. Kio Amachree's "Hot, Black & Sweet" opens with sexy, sultry, Parliament-esque music; the marching rhythm accompanies a frantic bass line that seemingly plucks random strings, compelling its listener to move frantically. "Slow Down" by Amas Grill frames funk within disco's very distinct aesthetics - a fast moving beat, scuttling guitar licks and an intermittent but demanding bass line. The bleepy stomp of "Sabi (Get Down)" opens proceedings on the flip, while "Time Will Tell", by Ice, is a full-on funk attack - the bass line, trumpet notes and aquatic guitar licks are all given ample room to breathe, giving the listener a chance to be caught up in the infectious African swing.
