Given the amount of talent that Tru Thoughts have unearthed on their own doorstep over the years, Brighton must be jam-packed with young producers. Here they give a break to another local lad, the hitherto unknown Beta Hector. His sound is decidedly looser and more chemically frazzled then many of his label mates, giving Sunbeam Insulin a crackly, lo-fi quality often missing from Tru Thoughts releases. Musically, the 13 tracks here touch on psychedelic rock, hip-hop, creaky soul, muddy funk breaks, wired electronica, old skool electro and creepy downtempo beats. Think Four Tet after a fistful of acid tabs, jamming with Nostalgia 77 and Newcleus, and you're close to the Beta Hector sound.
