Soul JazzGiven the seemingly bottomless depths of the Studio One vaults, it seems likely that Soul Jazz will continue to mine them for some time yet. This latest collection in their ongoing reissue series is named after one of Studio One boss Clement 'Sir Coxsone' Dodd's lesser-known imprints, Ironside Records. Featuring tracks recorded between 1963 and 1979, the collection offers a broad outline of reggae developments in the period, delivering up a pleasingly scratchy mixture of roots, rockers, dub, ska and reggae. Naturally, highlights are plentiful, from the heavy dub horns and riddims of Drum Bago and the Rebel Group's "Reggae Version", to the reggae-jazz madness of Lone Ranger's "Three Mile Skank". Impeccable as always.
