A member of Russian broken beat crew Jazz Gangsters, producer Denizo has gone on an interesting excursion on this solo release entitled "Strange Things". Stretched over four tracks, he creates a blitz of fluttering samples and pleasingly dissonant textures, all anchored by post-Dilla bass beats running at skewed rhythms and at hip hop tempos. The high end static of "Crazy Radio Show" folds nicely into the shimmering neon funk of "Guess The Tune", while the thick, subby kicks of "Another's Morning" are perfectly balanced by some hypnagogic pads that swell over dreamy piano licks. A real treat of a release, this definitely stands up to repeat listening.
