With popular music increasingly obsessed with classic soul and funk (see Cee-Lo Green, Mayer Hawthorne etc), original revivalists Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings seem more relevant than ever. Of course, they were doing it long before major labels spotted the crossover potential of such breezy, authentically produced nostalgia, as this UK-only compilation proves. Rather than being a straight 'best of', it showcases a selection of hard-to-find tracks that previously made an appearance on limited edition 7" singles, compilations and soundtracks. As you'd expect, there are some real belters, from the politically motivated strut of "Why Don't We All Stop Paying Taxes" to the sweet, Christmas-themed "Aint No Chimneys In The Projects".
