A project by two Iranian brothers based in Brooklyn and Tehran, Saint Abdullah create sounds largely inspired by the religious, political, and cultural history of Iran. With The Sounds of Evil, the duo revisit the roots of their childhood in war-torn, post-Islamic revolution Iran. These are family stories of martyrdom, loss and war tragedies all pieced together through aggressive sound collage, cultural sample archeology and rhythmic structure. On the A side, the beautifully haunting repetition of "Madar Komakam Kon" will hypnotise you into submission while the bass heavy B side cut utilises charming vocal hymns and layers of exotic percussion. Formed out of a deep frustration of Western perceptions of the Islamic faith, they hope that through their music they can build compassion around issues surrounding race, religion & culture.
