2nd Drop present this suitably slick and forward thinking first vinyl drop of 2012, enlisting some burgeoning production talent to tackle tracks from the label's recent and not so recent history. First up Atlanta's hotly tipped Distal takes on the excellent Gerry Read, twisting the steppish smudged house of "Roomland" into a finely honed and rapid fire footwork assault, full of tumbling toms and vocal hooks while the melodic mystery of the original remains. Flipside and Keysound lynchpin Sully digs deep into the 2nd Drop archives to rework 23Hz and Numaestro's "Zumo" - originally out back in 2009 - switching the track into a reduced garage roller, emphasising the funk and keeping the subby bass swells lean and mean. It's a freaky space his remix inhabits; somewhere near the early days of Horsepower with that addictive whip crack beat and ambiguous atmosphere.
