Review

A record store clerk, distributor, artist and DJ in the mid '90s, Didier Allyne cross-cuttingly approached the scene, even when 'French Touch' was massive. He embraced new trends from a sideways perspective, merging his own blend of broken beat, soul, jazz and Warp style electro and began the Parisian Shop Traffic Records in 1998. This compilation will be in several volumes, including flagship pieces from this shop: influenced by Fat Cat Records, Wally's Groove World and others. This first techno volume highlights the influence that Fat Cat had on Didier. Ritchie Inkle is one of the designers of Nu Loop. His piece: the tough yet soulful "Happy Face" represents the sound of Traffic Records. On the flip, the introspective piece by UK techno legends Stasis entitled "So-Lar" is from Time is Right in 1993.
