As stalwarts of the LA techno scene Vidal and Vangelis Vargas have been doing it for a long time, although their first release under the Raiz banner came only in 2010. Having contributed many times to the Historia y Violencia imprint run by Silent Servant, their credentials for no-nonsense darkside techno are assured, and it's no different on this release that inaugurates VRV. There is a spread of feelings to be drawn from Cored, from the twitchy drive of "Cored 1" to the sci-fi malaise of "Cored 2", but across all the tracks the sound design and atmosphere is second to none. Just check the final track for an exercise in unflinching groove and heartbreaking subtlety.
