It's been a sizable rise to prominence for Psychemagik, mostly known for their tripped-out, disco-infused grooves but increasingly moving towards big room club dynamics, and so it is on their debut for Crosstown Rebels. "Black Noir Schwarz" is all chunky synths, catchy hooks and a vocal line that everyone can recite from the first time it goes round, keeping the tone of the track as dark as the title without compromising on big-budget production gloss. Tensnake get into remix mode on the flip and simmer the track into a marginally less volatile kind of tech house, keeping the eerie tone but paring the synths into a more streamlined concoction. Mineo provides the diversion on the EP with a playful approach that works zig-zagging sample trickery around the vocal with a decisive nod to funk, completely reinventing the track in the process.
