Precious Soul is a track that accrues a psychedelic hue as it progresses. From the fairly staid beginnings of a deep house groove, the moment where dragged out vocals rise through the mix uttering the title is the cue for a multiplicity of spectral arrangements that combine to captivate. The dissonance between the shards of organ and rising synth washes in particular proves to be hauntingly beautiful. Philpot don Michel Baumann engages two sides of his many musical personalities on the flip, with his Jackmate remix dominated by the joyous combination of hissing hi-hats and a downward spiral of bass frequencies, with neat vocal edits and synth squiggles giving the remix an infectious retro flex. The dusty cabinet deep house shuffle of his Soulphiction remix is nice, but nowhere near as fun.
