Coming from the Radian-affiliated Karate Joe stable is without doubt a seal of approval for a band, and none are more deserving of this than Austrian band Le Charmant Rouge. Coming across like a warped cross between Tortoise and Neu!, the band combine "TNT" era noodling with energetic Kraut sounds. Apparently the band was conceived as an audio/visual cut up style group, but none of that is obvious listening to the tracks on "Post No Bill". The album is coherent and interesting, and never falls into the background, a difficult concept for so many instrumental bands. Of course, all the members of La Charmant Rouge are well versed musicians and between them have had their hands in both Glim and Mimi Secue, two other acts on the Karate Joe label, bound to appeal to fans of the aforementioned bands, as well as City Centre Offices' Im Not a Gun project. Recommended.
