Although he's been around for near two decades, Mika Vainio's sound is still surrounded in mystery and fascination. Thanks to Sahko's tactful repress schedule, we're still treated to Vainio's Kolmio EP, originally released in 1998 and still turning those heads! His minimalistic approach is both alluring and inimitable, verging more on the experimental than the dance floor archetype. "Lonit" is an absolutely enticing voyage through crafty analog drums and subtle, shape-shifting bleeps - it's incredible what one can achieve with so few elements! "Tele-Ctro" is slightly cruder, merging those raw, insistent beats together with deranged glitches. On the B-side we have "Acidophilus", another masterful lesso in harmonic sophistication and quasi-303 growls; whilst "Kuvio 3" is an aggressively stripped back techno experimentation with Vainio's familiar bleeps moving at their own will. E-S-S-E-N-T-I-A-L.
