Review

Quiff busting Night Slugs co-founder L-Vis 1990 has been tipped for big things for some time, having tugged the mullets of key tastemakers as far back as 2008. Here he presents his much-trumpeted debut album, a pleasingly MDMA-rich set that occasionally reminds us of the recent works of Bristol-based hipster Julio Bashmore (he makes an appearance, as it happens, alongside regular vocalist Javeon 'Shadz' McCarthy). Although sonically similar in some regards, there's more warmth to the tracks on "Neon Dreams" than Bashmore's sometimes alien-sounding efforts, not to mention a thick vein of 80s pop coursing through the heart of the LP. It's actually these smart pop moments that impress far more than the album's rare forays into dancefloor territory.
