Having been a founder member of Finnish noiseniks Pan Sonic, Mika Vainio is an old hand at blending found sound, white noise and vast electronics. Now based in Berlin, he continues to compose tracks that push the boundaries of music to its very limits. With FE304: Magnetite - a kind of homage to magnets and the importance of electro-magnetic currents in electronics - he continues to give the impression of being some kind of contemporary Stockhausen. Certainly, there's much to admire in this collection of unflinchingly minimal, oddball compositions, but it's not for the faint hearted. It is, though, a thoroughly absorbing and, at times, extremely intense listen.
