Italian producer Mauro Picotto has long been one of the most admired names in the harder end of the European music scene, having first made his name as a trance producer at the tail end of the '90s. Since then, he's focused more on bouncy techno, as this surprise reissue of his near legendary 2001 DJ mix Metamorphose proves. While now vintage, the material has aged rather well, and sounds as effervescent now as it did back then. Picotto veritably sprints through underground scene anthems from the period, delivering now forgotten cuts from the likes of Chris Leibing, Alter Ego, Thomas Schumacher, Johannes Heil and Devil Fish, whose "Good Life"-goes-rave cut "Man Alive" sounds like the inspiration for some of Shed's acclaimed Head High productions.
