Glenview Records continue to look to Russia for material with a recent 10" by Saint Petersburg Disco Spin Club now joined by this Madison At The Blue Lagoon EP from compatriot Volta Cab. The artwork shows a sketched body in a push up position beside a pool and this EP is careful not to wade too close to the deep or shallow ends of house music. It opens with a Rhodesy "Affelay In Trouble" with chords that resonate like a struck bell, while "Playaz Breezin'" shuffles into clubbier territory with Volta Cab's use of darkly reverbs, a four-timed kick drum, filtered keys and rapping vocals that land somewhere between Slick Rick and Maxi Jazz. The EPs title track chimes like birds in the spring time, with horns adding some extra funk, while "Red Rash" offers up some Drexyian speed aquatics, Volta Cab style.
