From the opening strains of "Other Ways", it's clear that Howse is the kind of producer that was made for Tri Angle, its woozy hip-hop tempo beats and strangely organic sounds being most reminiscent of label mate Clams Casino. But with the footwork tempo of "VBS" things take a very different turn, with insistent rhythms that are nonetheless shrouded in darkness, coming across as a more sedated version of the genre. "Old Tea" meanwhile is a lot more cluttered, as scattered pieces of rhythm are eventually drawn into each other to leave only thundering bass weight, while "Depths" and "Fete" return to the textured downtempo beatwork, accompanied by foggy low end that seems to drift in and out of view. It's an EP of constant push and pull against competing elements, but that's undeniably its strength.
