Review

The long awaited debut album of Duplex. Produced in the suburbs of Rotterdam, Duplex are suppliers of deep inner city techno of the highest quality. Duplex is part of the Dutch generation of techno producers of the mid and early nineties (Ferry Corsten, Speedy J, Secret Cinema, Literon/Gerd, New World Aquarium etc). After more then 10 years of producing music for several labels they finally come with a full length album. Other Dutch techno producers who started in the same period and with the same background often went into completely different directions (Trance, House, Gabber, Hardcore.) But Duplex always stayed very close to their personal ethics (which has been very much inspired by early Detroit techno). 11 timeless tracks perfect for the dance floor or as a late night soundtrack for driving through the city. People who heard previous Duplex releases know their quality and their love for emotional techno. Their album is somehow a hybrid between the abstract techno of Basic Channel and melodic techno of pioneers like Derrick May. They definitely have their passion for atmospheric tracks with several layers of sounds, deep driving bass lines, beautiful synths and smooth but dirty drum machines. But those are the sounds of a hectic and busy working city at night mode. A journalist described their music as Moodymann doing techno and that's probably not such bad way to describe it!
