||2.||"In & Out" (4:27)|
The mysterious J M S Khosah, previously known for creating weird and wonderful workouts for stupidly limited cassette releases on NCA, has graduated to Funkineven's Apron imprint. Given his closeness with fellow Apron artist Brassfoot, this isn't much of a surprise. As vinyl debuts go, Still Human is pretty good. There's plenty of variety on show, with Khosmah first layering chiming, minor key melodies and swirling textures on top of a jackin' groove ("Actuality"), before turning cut-up jazz-funk samples into a distorted deep house loop jam ("In & Out"). Flip the records for the punchy, scattergun drum machine hits, odd noises and sparkling pianos of "Sancha", and the dirt-encrusted late night sweatiness of "Doubt".
