A Tension vinyl

For those willing to delve deeply, the experimental cassette scene is full of obscure gems. Under the Human Rays alias, Sweden's Robin Smeds Mattila has been responsible for a number of overlooked tape classics. Here, Further Records has decided to transfer Mattila's undoubted skills to vinyl for the first time. Like much of the producer's work, A Tension blends experimental recording techniques with his usual firm grasp of mood and melody. The result is a quartet of meandering ambient cuts that variously draw on influences from across the beat-less spectrum, from the Berlin School and Brian Eno, to Biosphere and Pete Namlook. Hopefully, this will help introduce Matilla to a whole new audience; his mesmerising music is certainly worthy of wider acclaim.
