Little do people know but James Murphy actually employs a rusty old swingometer to decide which of his cadre of DFA artistes get to release an album. After Marcus Lambkin sneakily applied some WD40, the arrow of fortune finally lands on Shit Robot and he gets to unleash the beast that is From The Cradle To The Rave. Questionable title aside, this debut long player from the Godfather of DFA ticks all the boxes. From the opening sinewy bass strains of "Tuff Enuff?", your senses are treated to a bewitching selection of club cuts that pulse with energy and reference Chicago house, European techno progenitors and the best in gay electronic disco. Guest vocals from Nancy Whang on the breezy synth pop of "Take Em Up" and a glorious falsetto turn from Alexis Hot Chip on "Losing My Patience" ensure this album works just as well on headphones as in the club.
