Free School's 2012 debut album, Tender Administration, was something of a slow-burn delight - a woozy, Balearic-minded set full of loved-up synth-pop, krautrock-influenced instrumentals and stargazing instrumentals. This belated follow-up sees the Birmingham-based duo pop up on Static Caravan with an album that smartly throws more influences into their already bubbling melting pop. Full of ear-pleasing synth lines and glassy-eyed intent, Dancing On The Dark craftily doffs a cap to hip-hop, deep house and wavy indie disco as well as classic '80s synth-pop and sun-kissed White Isle grooves. It also features an impressive cast-list of guests and collaborators, including Maps, Seaworthy's Greg Bird, and reggae vocalist Tomlin Mystic.
