The prospect of an appearance from veteran house funsters Freaks on Hot Creations is enough to make even the most sour-faced disco miserablist go weak at the knees. Predictably, "Black Shoes White Socks" is a whole lot of fun, a kind of sparkling house update of classic boogie mixed with cheery new wave synth-pop. With a strong vocal, snaking saxophones and hooky synths, it's both a proper song (shock) and defiantly dancefloor-friendly. Even more exciting - certainly for those of a certain vintage - is the addition of a Cajmere remix. Lacing the original sax and vocals over a sturdy acid house groove, it's the perfect accompaniment to the grandiose original.
