Ruff Records, a cornerstone of the experimental sounds emanating from the land down under, has just gone and reissued one of the most sought after post-punk records from Australia's rich but ultimately hidden alternative heritage. Dub, techno, lo-fi, this LP has it all. The opener "Static Whispers" is in fact a blend of all three styles, where chuggish 808 beats are moulded around an airy, deep layer of sonics. There's also plenty of funk within, such as on "Pig"; flurries of electro on tracks like "Get Your Stinger Away From Me"; and even the sort of slo-mo house that's being made today on "Heat Stroke". One thing is for sure - if The Electrifying Mojo had heard this back in the mid 80s he'd have been serving it to all those Detroit techno luminaries on a daily basis.
