Having recently DJed a militant set of 90s R&B classics to a packed out crowd alongside Romy XX at Dalston venue The Shacklewell Arms, it's clear that Solange Knowles is operating on a different and entirely more intriguing plane of ambition to her more celebrated sister. In light of such facts, it's only right that Solange provides a vocal turn on Equal Dreams, the debut release from Rewards on DFA. More commonly known as part of Chairlift, Aaron Pfenning displays an eye for slinky sounds that fit perfectly on James Murphy's label and also a winning exposition of vocal harmonies between himself and Knowles. There's an accompanying instrumental version for those who somehow are averse to the 100 silk that is Solange's vocal, whilst "Asleep With The Lights On" brings to mind classic synth pop arrangements of days gone by, not least thanks to those 80s sounding Linn drum fills.
