The artwork, title and general feel of this debut full-length from Boston-based hipsters Soul Clap leads us to one startling conclusion: they want to be thought of as a kind of modern-day Prince for the E generation. It's a noble and daring aspiration fraught with danger. Yet for the most part, they pull it off. Flitting between touchy-feely, synth-heavy deepness, tactile house, fluid MDMA-funk, Balearic hip-house (really) and comfy, radio-friendly synth-soul, EFunk: The Album darts in many different directions but never loses sight of its ultimate purpose - namely to inspire mile-wide grins and spine-tingling dancefloor singalongs. It's not quite Sign 'O' The Times on gurners, but it's pretty good.
