DJ Spinna's ability to seamlessly segue between hip-hop and soulful house in both his productions and DJ sets has long marked him out as a genuine one-off. It's interesting to note, though, that little effort has previously been made by labels to celebrate the more 4/4 side of his output. With The Sound Beyond The Stars, BBE is aiming to right this wrong by gathering together two CDs worth of his greatest Southport Weekender-friendly house remixes. Naturally, the resultant collection is something of a killer, with stone cold classics - much-played reworks of Shaun Escoffery, Fertile Ground and Louie Vega - being joined by warm, rich, rolling and on-point, but previously overlooked, rubs of Agent K, Kerri Chandler and Bah Samba
