Considering Japanese producer Makoto has released material for the Liquid Drum & Bass royalty - Bingo Beats, Creative Source and Good Looking amongst them, it's quite the coup for French label 7even Recordings to entice this twelve inch out of him. There's a definite freshness to both tracks here, with the rumbling "Different Rhythms" true to its name in marrying the well used Amen break to a bucking 135bpm flex. Rich layers of atmospheric texture make their presence felt with restrained poise, and it should be noted the track sounds pretty cool at 33rpm too. It's matched by the high definition fluttering brilliance of "What You Want" which aligns Makoto's soulful leanings to a nicely brukked out rhythm.
