Phil Stumpf is back after his storming release earlier last year. This time we are treated with a contemplative but bouncy motor-city serenade. Warm pads, a lively, jumping rhythm and that beautiful melody makes you want to play this "Cut" more than once. The flipside gives us yet another aspect of Mr. Stumpf, with a live-bass driven groove that transports you straight into the merry company of the fearsome stick fighting martial artists of Kali, somewhere in downtown Manila. The complex attacking patterns flows into each other like a well rehearsed dance and at one time was disguised as such in order to preserve these native fighting traditions from the prying eyes of foreign occupants. If you had discovered their secret a century ago, the practitioners of this once highly guarded combative art would most certainly burst out in a curious "Who told you?" On the remix-tip we are proud to present Rui Da Silva, yet another producing legend that has been around since the early days. Staying one step ahead of his listeners with groundbreaking sounds and a relentless attitude to dance music, Rui has done his fair share of pushing the musical limits. This has been audible on his own imprints Kismet and now lately 64 recordings where not being afraid of releasing less accessible music that has been far ahead of its time. With his remix of "Who told you" Rui gives us a minimal but heavy avant-garde treatment for the fabric massive with one of the most mental and drugged out drum-tweaks we've heard in years. Definitely not easy listening but well worth the time spent getting the hang of.
