"Say It Slow" (Hee Haw mix) |
The Complete Spiral EP makes for a superb if quite unexpected release from DJ Sprinkles and SND's Mark Fell, delivering three tracks of effervescent throwback NY house steeped in a musical heritage from two pioneers of electronic music who experienced it first time round. At twelve minutes long the title track is the undoubted centrepiece here, with the extended length allowing both Fell and Sprinkles to work their magic on a eminently slinky and wondrous level, intricate little polyrhythms slipping elegantly in line with liquefied melodics - it's the sort of house track you'd quite happily turn mad listening to on repeat as infinity approached. Complementing this, "Say It Slow (N U M mix)" allows Sprinkles the chance to indulge his political side, sampling a speech from 80s Trade Unionist Arthur Scargill over a bumping, organ heavy groove, whilst the Hee Haw Mix replaces Arthur's distinct tones with some neat little vocal stabs. Pricey yes, but undoubtedly one of the 12"s of the year so far!
