These days, it's hard to find contemporary artists making real, unadulterated psych-funk. Combo Chimbita are one such outfit; they're masters of their genre, and they have a real skill for amalgamating the best of South American and African rock. El Corredor De Jaguar comes out courtesy of Names You Can Trust, and its four sublime tunes are a true breath of fresh air among so much sub-standard, 70s rip-offs. "Pajaro" sets the scene with a cool, moody bass and intricate percussion knots, and "Tamborero" picks up the tempo and injects a glorious wave of Latino suaveness into the track's vocals. Our favourite piece has to be "Frio Severo", though, with its stepping drums and hummable guitar hook, but "Chimbita Theme" does a wonderful job of closing this stupendous 7" off with a wild and psychedelic infusion of guitars and tribal drumming. Highly recommended!
