Icelandic producer Bjarki must be one of the most prolific artists of 2016. Certainly, we can't think of many others - in dancefloor-minded techno circles, at least - who have released three albums in the last 12 months. Happily, he's on fine form again here. A-side "Fresh Jive" is a twisted take on early British breakbeat hardcore, which niftily combines rhythmic dexterity with the kind of bold, rolling riffs that would have once been the hallmark of far-sighted U.S garage. If we had to pigeonhole it, we'd call it "deep rave". On the flip, you'll find the woozy but crispy 4/4 techno bounce of "Genat 8", which makes great use of wild, pitched-up vocal samples, chiming melody lines, and some seriously energetic cymbal programming.
