After the first two releases from Kathexis highlighted work by Scuba Death's Ricardo Donoso and Alex Smoke as Alex Menzies respectively, expectations are high for the third release, and whoever is responsible for Birds Of Prey has more than stepped up. A multi-instrumental sound emanates from the core of the six track EP, where expressive harmonies meet with engrossing pulses of static and noise in a surprisingly emotional journey through obtuse soundscapes. The likes of "Camber" have a sprightly touch thanks to arpeggios strafing their way through the drones, while languid guitar notes peal out in "The Horse Thief", but these more tangible elements are always framed by spectral forms to keep things the right side of freaky.
