||2.||"Encipher & Decipher"|
Berghain regulars Sam Barker and Andy Baumecker impressed with their 2012 debut album, Transsektoral, but have been noticeably quiet since then. While that album gleefully fused stripped-back Teutonic techno with elements of UK bass music, Turns is an altogether more cerebral affair. It begins with a pair of becalmed, mood enhancing ambient cuts, before stepping towards the dancefloor via the undulating, analogue techno pulse of "Club Entropicana". It's a pattern that continues throughout the album, with spaced-out, experimental interludes making way for more percussive, modular-driven club fare. Highlights include the dub techno warmth of "Nocturnal", and creepy closer "Statik".
