    Review

The Balearica series of compilations gets revitalized after a four year period of dormancy with this double vinyl set perhaps the finest example to date of the many styles of music that can be presented as Balearic. This eight track set - all remastered - commences with the 12" version of Love Unlimited Orchestra's "Welcome Aboard". The heavily populated side project of Barry White, the L.U.O. has always been less celebrated though equally musically brilliant, with this track in particular a slick uptempo 2-step style disco boogie odyssey. From here, the picks range from the slow burning swooping disco of ORS to spinal proto house takes on the Thin White Duke and Marvin Gaye courtesy of Big Ben Tribe and Tamiko Jones respectively. Interspersed with this are avant garde Italo oddities (Bagarre) further cover versions and one of DJ Harvey's secret weapons - the Jim Burgess mix of Wham's "Love Maker" (not that Wham in case you were wondering!)
