Helsinki's Lil Tony aka Toni Rantanen returns to the Innervisions label for a first full release with this sumptuously presented twelve inch. The title track "Anton's Groove" is just as impressive as the sleeve it comes housed in, as Rantanen drops a throwback electro jacker that's filled with glacial textures and nagging bubbling melodies. An fully frosted Model 500 if you will. On the flip, Rantanen presents a second part of "Anton's Groove" which replaces the glacial sheen with throbbing, menacing bass that splurges messily across the snapping percussion. Two contrasting takes but equally impressive. To round things off, "Nudge" drops haunting panned melodies over stuttering 808 kicks, woodblock syncopation and voodoo bass movements which combine to narcotic rhythmic effect. A weird and wonderful record.
