Review

DJ Silversurfer first came to the world's attention with "Welcome to Berlin" (Lasergun) in 2003 - a classic release which was in the Top 3 of every DJ in the know. Expertly run by Damian Lazarus & Matthew Styles, Crosstown Rebels has become the home for the best techno, electro and house releases in the last three years. With artists and releases from Pier Bucci, Kiki & Silversurfer, Jennifer Cardini, Blackstrobe, Ost & Kjex, DJ Koze, Hiem, Rob Mello, Luke Solomon - Crosstown Rebels is at the forefront of the new energy in international club culture. "Ace Of Spades", which features co-production from Kiki, starts off with a distinctive growling bass line and a sharp kick that soon begins to lift you up, higher and higher. Suddenly out comes one of the most distinctive grooves you'll hear all summer. "Dirty Dishes" is a real melon-twister and if used correctly can cause serious damage to the dance floor. Almost a frequency test for your ears, sharp and dragged out bleeps and squeaks provide the melody for a very understated but heavy beat. Warped minimal madness. "Dirty Dishes is right up my tin pan alley. Proper wobbly funk!" - Paul Woodford, "Dirty Dishes is cool. I like it a lot!" - Luke Solomon, "Love both sides!!! Charting it - think it's brilliant. Prefer the slightly darker one that kind of builds more - the other side's good with electro records though cause it's more sparse with weird cut up bits. But they are both fantastic." - Shelley Parker (Haywire).
