Review

Rising UK funky star Donaeo has had a lot to celebrate over the last year. In addition to a number of successful tracks, most notably "Devil In a Blue Dress," "African Warrior," "Party Hard" and "Watching Her Move" the singer, songwriter and producer has also made a debut album that has been the subject of much critical acclaim. Released in June 2009, Party Hard grabbed much attention for its maker. Next came the release of one of the tracks off that album, "Riot Music," again becoming a hit for Donaeo. Now, Digital Soundboy are unleashing a tree tracker of Shy FX's radio mix and two stellar remixes from Skream and The Nextmen.

Shy FX brings his trademark drums to his subtle take on the original. Keeping the same sense of urgency of the track, the sub bass rumbles beneath shuffling beats, sirens and Donaeo's feisty yet soulful vocals. Next up is Skream's remix. Moving instantly into his jungle stance, Skream brings bass in its abundance to "Riot Music." He keeps it hard hitting until a much needed breakdown provides some respite. However, this only make the next drop all the more earth shattering. A true dancefloor smasher. The Nextmen's more level remix finishes the package. It has stabby basslines and features a more soulful vocal approach. It is uptempo but devoid of the huge drops of the two previous tracks, keeping its dancefloor aesthetic through deep sub bass..

A trio of big hitting remixes has made this a definite dancefloor package. Each taking on the original in its own unique way, the sound remains floor shaking to the last. It's also testament to Donaeo's original that it has spawned so much creativity, but testament to the remixers themselves that these tracks rival the skill of Donaeo's.
