  3. Under Me (6:33)
Review: Pierre Codarin has been hitting the underground circuit for the past few years releasing material on respected labels and his own eponymous imprint. On the A side Awaken" is the kind of rolling and hypnotic minimal house for big dancefloors that Mulen and Djebali fans will admire. "Neve Nudes" is more stripped back and loopy with its infectious funky bassline and swing fuelled rhythm, Finally "Under Me" ends things on a deep house notes on this classic 90's Chicago vibe which is very convincing.

Cat: ACME 003. Rel: 27 Jun 16
  1. La Buena Onda (12:47)
  2. Sincopa Y Contratiempo (11:43)
Played by: Alex Font
Review: Spanish musician Alex Font delivers the third release from his acme imprint this May with two groove led cuts set for a limited release of 200 copies on vinyl.
Since his first release in 2008, Alex Font has been etching his name into the worlds of house and minimal, building up an impressive back catalogue of releases on labels including Oblack and Nite Grooves. His imprint acme's debut release '001' garnered support from Dyed Soundorom, Ricardo Villalobos, Seth Troxler, San Proper and Sascha Dive amongst many, and Font returns to deliver the third instalment in the labels catalogue.
'La Buena Onda' kicks off the release with a series of punchy kicks, organic percussion licks and general funkiness before easing into a classic house groove reinforced by its compelling lead line and charming vocals. Second offering 'Sincopa y Contratiempo' switches things up with a minimal arrangement of shuffling hats, glitchy pops and clicks, a distinctly off-kilter swing and delicate nuances throughout its near 12 minute journey.

Cat: KOM 358. Rel: 27 Jun 16

  2. Izar (8:24)
  3. Merging Black (7:30)
Review: Frankey & Sandrino are still on a roll after that great release on Innervisions last year and now appear for esteemed Cologne imprint Kompakt for the Hydrae EP. The title track has a hazy and cosmic kind of nu-disco vibe on the tech house tip; yeah it's an interesting one but it works! "Izar" is a dark journey track engineered for compelling dance floor drama with its razor sharp arpeggio and layers of dark strings and pads creating all the right kind of suspense. Finally "Merging Black" delves back into the exotic with its sparse arrangement featuring middle eastern rhythms, textured soundscapes and hypnotic bass pulsations.

Remixes (12")
Cat: SK 309. Rel: 27 Jun 16
  1. Hope (LV remix) (5:53)
  2. Colour (Fabian Dikof dub) (7:08)
  3. Spring At Last (The Black 80s remix) (6:04)
  4. Colour (Potatohead People Lights Off remix) (4:26)
Review: Pete Josef's album for Sonar Kollektiv, the aptly named Colour, was a fitting piece of future soul and downtempo for this now legendary leftfield jazz outpost. Luckily, the label are as open-minded as the music on their catalogue, and they've decided to have a selection of tunes from the LP remixed and rewired into minimal dance cuts by a fine group of names. LV adds a subtle kick-hat to "Hope", while Fabian Dikof's dub version of "Colour" spirals the listener into a deep, trip web of strobe-light minimal for the peak hours. On the flip, "Spring At Last" is retouched by The Black 80s and transformed into a delicate, bouncy house chiller, followed by another glorious remix of colour by Potatohead People Lights Off, this time taking the tune to slower, more hip-hop-leaning territories.

  4. One For Kenny (5:03)
Review: Amsterdam house head Jacob Otten aka Kid Sublime is up next for Sydney heroes People Must Jam; who after several years of kick ass parties in Australia's clubbing capital have now launched an in-house label which is on to good things if their recent releases by Andi Ash, Ptaki and Inkswel are anything to go by. On the A side we've got "Bang Like Sims" a restrained and minimal yet tough DJ tool that will no doubt appeal to even the British legend namesake himself. Next up is the funky and tropical Afro beat of "We The People" which is a right party starter guaranteed. On the flip "I Like Em Dirty" has got the sexy, late night deep house vibe and finally "One 4 Kenny" stays on the with deep house vibe bit more enertically with bongo drums and emotive keys.

Review: London's Eastenderz have previously presented us work by Priku Patrice Meiner and doubtingthomas and are back with another killer release. You only need listen to the first few second of "Memory Soul" to realise that this Lizz is Romanian. Subtle, hypnotic and high tech are the first descriptions that come to mind when trying to describe this sublime groove over ten and half minutes that you'll wish never end. On the flip "Freack Me" uses that very vocal refrain over its reductionist avant garde groove that is perfect for 9AM Sunday in a Bucharest club for when things needs to get really weird.

Review: Ukraine's iO Mulen is back and he's really killing it at the moment. Not content with running the Mulen and Mulen People imprints he's launched a third label Moi (get it?) which is up to its fifth release. We can't really tell why he started it and what makes it different from his other outlets but to be honest we're not complaining when his output is this good; the more the better! "Track 1" has a tough and rolling groove comparable to his recent hit "Stick Out" on Cardinal; real sleek. On flip "Track 2" gets some funky cyclic groove happening that's hypnotic as much as it is infectious. As with all of this guy's releases they're hot and limited so get in quick.

  3. Bring It! (5:22)
Played by: Terminal Broadcast
Review: Colin McBean is an unstoppable force at the moment isn't he! At the moment you say? Yeah too right; the guy never actually stopped his relentless pursuit of the perfect house and techno grooves since the '90s and this Conectionz EP is no exception. Starting things off in explosive fashion with the "You In Or You Out? (Sims Jacker edit)" with its relentless thud and crack of a 909 workout with funky bass and evil pads helped out by some generous reverb build ups; all you need really. The original version up next is more restrained deep house with that great vocal refrain repeating "live your life the way you wanna be free" the tracks aggression provided by those hissing rhythms. Finally "Bring It" is a soulful breakbeat number with soaring synth leads that is a great departure from McBean's normal style.

  2. Slouch - "Basarwa" (6:31)
  3. Aki Aki/Rasputin - "Lady Land" (5:05)
Review: Germany's Aiwo label made an impressive debut last year, offering a fresh selection of artists with a refreshingly non-outsider approach to underground house music. To be precise, the music on the label is raw and provocative, but it doesn't try to be weird simply for the sake of it. This also goes for 002, this new collaborative EP by a new collective of talent from around the block. The "99%" by The Normalboyz - remixed by DJ Normal - is a powerful house punch that packs mean lean in its groove and bass, while "Basarwa" by Slouch takes a tribal sort of beat and breaks it down into a leftfield chant, and "Lady Lady" by by Aki Aki and Rasputin delivers some fine, nutjob dub for fans of the Sex Tags Amfibia output. Fresh & Made: Volume 2 Mixes (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: ET 004B. Rel: 27 Jun 16
  1. Fresh & Made (The Unblinding Of Eric Volta mix)
  2. Fresh & Made (SLF mix)
  3. Fresh & Made (Dorylus mix)
  4. Fresh & Made (Felkon alternative Arp mix)
Review: Volume 2 pools more of Demi's extensive network of friends and is truly a heavyweight mix of reworks that each shine in their own light. Leading the charge is a masterful re-intepretation by one of the scene's truest artists in Eric Volta who came to be known to the masses thanks to his club smash hit "Love Your Illusion" on No.19 Records. Volta completely flips Fresh & Made on its head with a sonic exploration that is typically understated yet full of tension. The mix glides through a range of emotions and helps expose Pague's vocals in a new light and demonstrates once more the studio prowess this man has when he is given free reign to manifest his mind onto the mixing desk.
SLF is London based producer Stephane Lefrancois and a well respected sound engineer to many in the dance scene. This remix came about by one of those accidental but wonderful crossing of paths when Demi visited his studio for a mixdown session on some of his own unreleased material. After playing each other some music at the end of a day session, the song immediately struck a chord with Stephane who didn't hesitate to put his stamp on the release. Work went underway with Demi and Stephane that evening with Stephane continuing the session himself overnight to complete a simply gorgeously warm and swayful rework that will have you putting this on repeat again and again.
Dorylus is becoming an increasingly well respected producer outfit Ain the scene, winning plaudits all over for their pure approach to music making their innovative vinyl based Bokhari Records. One half of Dorylus Paul Crognale is also a key resident for the influential Electric Minds stable. A
It was again an enthusiastic tone and meeting between Paul and Demi that set this mix in motion; A mix that odes to the past with its use of modified hardware that creates a sound which has a strong influence taken from Ten City/Inner City life classics.. With it's classic yet contemporary approach this mix has been causing a profound impact in Demi's sets these past 6 months.
And finally a truly outstanding remix is provided by Felkon hailing from Dresden, Germany, and who is an established and respected producer in his own right. Felkon scored a massive hit with his remix of Jamiroquai's "Too Young to Die" which initially caught Demi's attention. This is a no-nonsense electro trance anthem done right. It simply hits all the right notes; shamelessly euphoric yet controlled and mature that taps direct into the senses and proves to be an explosive tool for any dance floor.
A very personal project that is reflective of his own style of DJ'ing, this package put together by Demi oozes class and has something truly for everyone.

Review: Frankfurt up and comer Dario Reimann makes the kind of dark and mysterious deep house influenced by the likes of Mountain People or STL and we're seriously digging it. "Orange Beam" is a lonely and melancholic groove, made in isolation exactly for those kinds of lonely dancefloor moments while "Night Sky Observations" (on the flip) is the kind of dusty and sombre cut you could imagine hearing in a warm up set at Robert Johnson. Finally "Orange Beam (Malin Genie Remix)" is other sound of Frankfurt: rolling and slinky tech house for peak time dancefloors

Review: Just as his three month residency at Shoreditch club XOYO draws to a close, Tiga returns with a new 12" on Ninja Tune subsidiary Counter. Contained within is "Always," a real highlight of No Fantasy Required, the Turbo man's triumphant return to the album format after a seven year break. One of those cuts that demands the 12" format, "Always" pairs a rugged acid line with typical lyrical flair and more than a dash of late '80s Cabaret Voltaire pomp. On the flip Phil Moffa and Seth Troxler do their thing on a fine remix whilst Tiga rounds it out with a fresh track "I'm So Boss".

Review: Joris Voorn's and Edwin Oosterwal's Green imprint has brought us some great music over the last several years and it just keeps going courtesy of the former's new release. This Story Until Now features two emotive and uplifting journeys through high tech soul that even the Motor City forefathers would even tip their hat to, such as on the breathtaking Adrenalin trip "Dawn (Green Mix)" with its rich strings, power pianos and energetic groove that ticks all the right boxes. On the flip "Looks Fake Obviously" is great title when you consider that Voorn creates the most perfect journey track filled with the most epic dancefloor drama that'll make all the copycats of the moment bow their heads in shame. Epic stuff!

Review: Former Panorama Bar resident and local Berlin fixture Cassy Britton presents her first full length release since giving up her residency and leaving Europe's clubbing capital for the sunny shores of Los Angeles. The Donna LP features some dusty classic house sounds of the deeper spectrum, as heard previously on her eponymous imprint, Uzuri or Perlon sporadically over the last 10 years and her great vocals which veer from spoken word, haunting/monotone to high pitched diva moves are a constant throughout. Highlights for us were the uplifting deep disco of "All I Do", the soulful deep funk on her cover of Prince's "Strange Relationship" or the emotive yet tough techno of "Move".
