Review: Clap!Clap! affiliate and respected bass fusionista Italian Khalab teams up with Mali girot and percussionist Baba Sissoko for a totally unique west African adventure. Thanks to Baba's storytelling vocal control and the dizzying array of traditional instruments, it's 80 percent African with just a subtle influence of western production techniques. From the dense layers of strings of "Nana" to the ominous analogue bass bedrock of "Tata" to the fuzzy, faraway textures and pensive drama of "Kan Djki Ke" and eastern sunrise strums of "Ko Djodo", Khalab and Baba have created a trip like no other. Immerse yourself.

  13. Quimica - "El Pulguero"
  14. El Buho - "Manana Tepotzlam"
Review: Nickodemus initially rose to fame as resident DJ and co-promoter of NYC's Turntables On The Hudson, a deliciously eclectic party with a clear international flavour. That particular aspect comes to the fore on Turntables On The Caribbean, a sweltering, sweat-sweet collection of Cuban, and Cuban-inspired music. There's naturally much to admire throughout, from the cheery reggae-tinged strut of Poirier's "Pale Mal" and the heavy hip-hop dub of ZEB's "Rude Boy Style", the the dense tropical rhythms of DJ Jigue Y La Tumba Francesca La Caridad De Oriente's "Rine", and the Cuban funk shuffle of BOSQ's "Tumbrala".

  3. Deux A Deux (feat Kongo Elektro) (3:33)
  4. Tera Deewana (feat Vasanth S & AKS) (2:57)
Review: Thornato delivers the goods wherever he lands, but this latest EP for Wonderwheel might well be the so-called tipping point. Much like some of Jah Wobble's odder works, "Chapinero" mixes far-Eastern melodies with a blend of fresh, contemporary beats, and the same goes for the gentler, more vocal-led sing-song that is "Koz Kazah". On the flip, "Deux A Deux" features Kongo Elektro and the sounds turn more African thanks to a tropical twist of flutes, leaving "Tera Deewana" to deliver the spiritual chanting from the desert lands....
