  3. Medlar - "Cant Stop" (Creative Swing Alliance remix)
  4. Ishmael - "Want You"
Review: Given their illustrious rise over the past twelve months, the appearance of Belfast duo Bicep on the latest Wolf Music release is quite the coup for the London label. Artist and label are of course no strangers, with a Bicep dub of Medlar appearing WOLFEP009, yet there's currently a Midas touch style momentum driving Andrew Ferguson and Matthew McBriar that should ensure this 12" sells out even swifter than previous lupine plates. "Mixmaster 88" is an unadulterated party anthem and another ode to some of their heroes (spot the cheeky Armando usage) yet it's most memorable because it shows Bicep at their most confident. Further house music excellence is afforded with contributions from Casino Times, Medlar and newcomer Ishmael that ensure this is yet another all killer, no filler emission from the Wolf Music stable.

Review: Graham 'Greymatter' Luckhurst has always been tricky to pin down. Initially inspired by soul, hip-hop and broken beat, his 2010 debut album Mind Over Matter joined the dots between those genres, garage and left-of-centre house. Having spent the last few years dropping quirky deep house floor fillers for Wolf Music, he returns to the London imprint with his sophomore set. Visions is an intriguing and entertaining set that's typically hard to categorize. While it has analogue deep house at its' core (as displayed via collaborations with Sophie Brown, Medlar and KRL), there are distinct nods to jazz, wonky downtempo electronica, and twisted, out-there acid.

  4. Parashutes (feat Hade) (9:47)
Review: Cologne's Hodini has appeared previously on local imprint AVA, as well as Berlin's Money $ex and Toytonics. On his new one for London's Wolf Music (his second for the label since his remix for Mr. Fries last year), he goes for a raw and jackin' house vibe that's dust covered and hypnotic and sits somewhere between the raw sampledelic cyclicality of Motor City Drum Ensemble's Raw Cuts Series and classic DJ Sneak style disco-cut ups. On the A side we've got the the funky "Down Up" and the lo-slung "Grigio" respectively. On the flip it's a much more chill affair, with the the blunted hip-hop flavour of "Represent Right Here" which calls to mind his work on the aforementioned label of Max Graef & Glenn Astro. Finally "Parashutes" features a bit of help from Hade on this smooth and soulful nu-disco jam that's aimed squarely at summertime open air dancefloors.

Review: The story of how this record on Wolf Music came to be is a shining beacon of how the underground works at its finest. Booked to play Dortmund venue Oma Doris last year, the Wolf lads were handed a CD of demos from young resident DJ Mr Fries which had them very impressed. Soon after label and artist shook hands, and now Mr Fries becomes Wolf Music's Dortmund correspondent with this blissful 5 track EP. The young German is a fine fit for the Wolf cause, brandishing a deep take on house that's got just the right amount of dust and plenty of soul in the samples used. We'd wager Mr Fries was signed up on the strength of lead track "Get Together" alone! Money $ex Records alumnus Hodini and long-time Wolf affiliate Garth BE provide extra sweetness on remix duties.

Review: David Cabanne (no, another one!) is based in Bordeaux, France. The young producer has released for Waxtefacts Records and Khasia Hills Records previously but now for Brighton based house heroes Wolf Music. On the A side, we have the dusty and disco-fied deepness of "Here I Am" and "Freshly Squeezed" respectively which utilise rusty and skittering old drumcomputer patterns with tastefully borrowed diva vocal samples to stunning effect. On the flip, the solemn and emotive "Flip The Script" closes out this fine little EP out in style.

Review: It's no surprise to see Amsterdam man Fritz Wentink issuing his debut album through Wolf Music, as the London label have been staunch supporters of his work with two 12" contributions over the past two years. The wonderfully named Rarely Pure, Never Simple adds to Wolf Music's growing artist album profile following long players from main men Medlar and Greymatter and further develops the all encompassing production style Wentink has displayed so eloquently for Detroit Swindle's Heist Recordings and others. He seems most impressive on the more downbeat tracks done in collaboration with Loes Jongerling who possesses a quite astounding vocal delivery, though those craving some proper house will totally dig on cuts like "The Excitement Happens At Page 320".

  2. Taxi Co (6:17)
  3. A Beat Is Not A Lovesong (5:50)
  4. A Story Of... (6:08)
Review: Fresh from inaugurating his own eponymous label, Sheffield producer and selector Al Zanders lands a debut on the mighty Wolf Music in the shape of Second To None. A confident title is matched by the calibre of productions across these four Zanders cuts, rife with the joyful vibe, rich instrumentation and canny samples we've come to expect from the Wolf stable. You can just tell the Wolf crew had no trouble deciding on the lead track with "Second To None" blissfully rattling from outright house pandemonium to serenity and back with aplomb, with the Bradock-style brushed soul deepness of "Taxi Co" just as memorable. "A Beat Is Not A Lovesong" sees Zanders toy around with a vocal sample brilliantly whilst "A Story Of..." is the epitome of a B2 slow burner.
