VV018 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: VV 018. Rel: 12 Oct 15
  1. Locusts & Lions (9:34)
  2. Brave (9:46)
Review: Having debuted on Valcrond Video label last year with the Immured 12" under her familiar Xosar alias, Sheela Rahman now returns to the platform for some "shared make-believe" with founder Luke Wyatt for new project Body Tools. Taking a catalogue number as its title, this two track 12" follows a succession of Body Tools radio broadcasts on Berlin Community Radio and showcases a softer, more hypnotic side which in the case of lead track "Locusts & Lions" hits hard when the poignant piano makes its presence felt. "Brave" channels a strange, modern kosmische vibe that will really hit the spot deep in the mix.

Becoming Nice (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: VV 017. Rel: 23 Mar 15
  1. Becoming Nice
  2. Janice Will Deal With It
  3. Cement Truck With Pretty Eyelashes
Review: Last year, Circuit, Burns & Hawk provided Rush Hour's No Label with the well received From The Legal Pad of... Now two thirds of that crew return to Torn Hawk's Valcrond Video with Becoming Nice. Like we've come to expect from the label, the three tracks across this release are emotional without taking itself too seriously, and the delayed '80s guitars are both playful and a little ironic, but it works. "Becoming Nice" is the highlight and it's a production that combines new age synths with '80s house melancholia and summery pop rock. It's the type of song you'd like to hear soundtrack a nostalgic montage of super 8 film. "Janice Will Dealt With It" stays rocky while maintaining a blurry house dynamic, while a broken beat "Cement Truck With Pretty Eyelashes" sounds like The XX only super-charged minus the breathy vocals.

  1. Slums Of Grand Central (7:54)
  2. Slums Of Grand Central (Tornhawked) (6:20)
  3. Slums Of Grand Central (rusted by Decor) (6:34)
Review: Daze makes a first appearance on Torn Hawk's Valcron Video label with a distinctive trio of adventurous jams hovering on the fringes of the dance. "Slums Of Grand Central" is certainly crafted with the party in mind, but it's a more introspective kind of get down for those who like popping at a slower tempo. Torn Hawk then takes the track to task with a tense revision that comes on like uneasy 90s electronica before Decor lays waste to the surroundings with a slamming remix that pushes into hard techno territory while retaining the wistful tones of the original.

Technology Transplant (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: VV 025. Rel: 26 Jun 17
  1. Brain Drained
  2. Technology Transplant
  3. Four Two Nine
Review: Delivery debuted in 2014 on Delroy Edwards' L.A. Club Resource label with ""Drama"", a beast of a 12"".

Now he brings his Los Angeles hardware warfare to Valcrond Video with three tracks of elegantly balanced machine music.

The entire A side is filled by the 12 minute sprawl of ""Brain Drained"", a journey down a dark greasy corridor. Towards the middle of the tunnel a dwarf stands casually, arms akimbo, as a 6 foot blonde bangs her head against the wall. The dwarf gives you a lethal look and silently mouths the words Keep on moving buddy, so you shuffle along, terrified, towards what might be the end of the tunnel, but sure smells like a funeral pyre.

B1(Technology Transplant) lets you lick a deceptively sweet lollipopi when babies are scared, it's good to let them suck on something.

B2 (four-two-nine) comes at you raw and direct with ten minutes of brawny pulse. You bite right through the lollipop. That same dwarf is backi he hands you a jersey (number 23) and some shoulder pads. Don't you remember you joined the football team?

  1. Access Code (Decor version)
  2. Bleep Shots
  3. Access Code (Mr Husk Unmix)
  4. ARS Trip
Review: "The artist known as G-23 continues his journey to the head of the gum-under-the-schooldesk underground with this release on Torn Hawk's Valcrond Video.

This multi-faceted Italian producer also deploys weirdo sounds under the name Secret Rave and Strange Audio Dreams, often on his own label Art-Aud. He has also released under the alias Moscow Death Disco on Helena Hauff's Return to Disorder.

Remixes of ""Access Code"" from Valcrond affiliates Decor and Mr. Husk start off each side. Both will pound and smear club meat all over the countertop. Let's pound those veal cutlets so thin you'll be able to see through them like flesh-pink stained glass. A2 brings us the sleazy slouch of ""Bleep Shots"". It sure sounds like a crew of developmentally impaired bullies out to steal your lunch money, so hold on to your fanny pack.
Finally, the title track closes things out in a brilliantly uncomfortable way.
ARS trip is a headache you'd pay to have. "

  3. Coma Tunnel (Tornhawked) (8:20)
Review: Having previously shored up at Finale Sessions, Public System and Proper Trax in the past, Grey People makes a move towards Torn Hawk's Valcron Video with an EP of machine magic that touches on all manner of moods. "Cryogenically Frozen" is a hard-hitting slice of club tackle to get bodies jacking and sweat pouring, while "Coma Tunnel" takes a warmer approach without losing the boxy beats. Meanwhile the label boss saddles up on the B side for a dreamy remix of "Coma Tunnel" that ramps up the reverb and creates a long form surrealist dream out of the original's component parts.

Roccale (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: VV 016. Rel: 09 Mar 15
  1. You Say I For Me
  2. Corrib Chun Mask
  3. Spry - Env
Review: Valcrond Video invites you into the world of Helmer's "Roccale". Helmer's second release picks up the pummel that began with his first release, and continues the attack with three tracks of thoughtful, pulsing darkness. "You Say I for Me" presents a forbidding metallic landscape, a snake winds through it in the aural form of an eerie growl, making its way among the crunch and clutter to periodically emerge and rear with menace. "Corrib chun Mask" is what they play for prisoners sentenced to hard labor in the gulag of the future, if hard labor = dancing for days. "spry -Env", the closing piece on Roccale, is perhaps Helmer's most masterfully evocative. We have walked in on a ritual, dominated by an incense pendulum that swings and smokes, and carries with it the sound of an ancient transgression.

  1. Fake Blood
  2. Hungry For Candy
  3. Sweet Tooth
  4. Manipulation
Review: Florian Kupfer and Luke Wyatt (Torn Hawk) met through the Ron Morelli Long Island matchmaking service that has done such a global favor by producing relationships and collaborations between previously isolated weirdos all around the world.

As solo artists they have produced work for some of the most adventurous labels around, including LIES , Technicolour, and Rush Hour's No 'Label' imprint.

Now they join forces for this haunting and darkly hilarious trip.

Candy-mongering ghosts of Halloweens past drag chains down dim hallways, punctuating the gloom with the clank of metal on wet concrete.

Who's that knocking on your door? Just a couple of 16 year-old boys wearing face paint with fake blood coming out of their mouths...hungry for candy.

Deep House
  1. Slave
  2. Outside
Review: Publicist is longtime producer/performer/musician Sebastian Thomson. His tracks approach house music from a darker angle, adding processed vocals and noise to a raw foundation that also takes cues from New Beat, acid house, and Detroit techno.
When performing live Publicist sequences the synths and not the drums, preferring to play an electronically treated drum kit in the middle of the dance floor. This adds an element of sweat, excitement and virtuosity not found in most electronic producer's live performances.
Sebastian Thomson is also known as a founding member of post rock pioneers Trans Am and as the drummer of heavy metal innovators Baroness.
Living in Brooklyn by way of Buenos Aires, Washington DC and London, Publicist has spent the last four years touring Europe extensively.

Review: Valcrond Video, the label run by sound and image artist Luke Wyatt (Torn Hawk), Apresents VV-013 Russo's ""Wild Metals"". A
Russo (Ari Russo) is an NYC based multi-artist whose engagement with abandoned media finds an outlet in the video bursts he culls as OfficeFern. As a programmer, he's produced innovative music generation tools such as the Diamond Arpeggiator. He returns to his own music with this collection of challenging and transporting structures.A
Wyatt and VV are eager to endorse Russo's latest report on crossmodal perception, a true exercise in synesthesia.A
""Wild Metals"" sounds like ferns and orchids infiltrating a tableaux of black plastic electronics, the breed of black plastic that Russo and Wyatt both found sinisterly inserted into the grid of their childhood. It provided the skin for some of their favorite toys, and its general resonance was aligned with the fast cars, women, and architecture that dominated their imaginations.

Always (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: VV 023. Rel: 01 May 17
  1. Always
  2. Resist
  3. Always (Tornhawked)
Review: Jason Letkiewicz isn't some fashionista. His efforts predate whatever you want to call the current wave of interest in club music. Through releases under various aliases on labels like L.I.E.S., Future Times, and his own label Confused House, he has established unimpeachable credibility as he explores and stretches the traditions of techno and house with scholastic dedication.

For his first release on Valcrond Video he offers two tracks as Steve Summers. "Always" builds up as a web of metallic syncopation pulsing with threat. A dangerous motif swerves in like pissed-off porpoises, slick with black grime after an oil spill. Vocals show up: they sound like somebody kidnapped a larynx and forced it to MC at the center of a badass board game. A disembodied voice box in the middle of a cardboard landscape.

On "Resist" that same captive voice rings through a metal hockey mask, as the instrumental elements seem to narrate an assault in progress. We're taping you down to the table, don't bother to resist.

On the B side a Torn Hawk remix takes "Always" to never-never land; the malice of the original track gets dressed up with puffy orange clouds (Cheetos). Traditions go in the toilet, return to the fundamental river, only to wash up in the reeds, fresh again . A melodic explosion hides at the center of the progression under hospital-grade gauze; C-4 strapped to the chest of a stuffed bunny suicide bomber.

  1. We Burnt Time
  2. Throb & Ruin
Review: Valcrond Video, the label of Brooklyn-based visual artist and producer Luke Wyatt presents it's very first vinyl issue in the shape of two new tracks from Torn Hawk, one of Wyatt's aliases. First coming to the fore in a musical sense with a set of distressed guitar and asphalt beat attacks on the LIES White Label series, Torn Hawk has been closely associated with Ron Morelli's label ever since with Wyatt subsequently working with Karen Gwyer, Secret Circuit and Willie Burns. Distancing himself a bit from the grime and grit some associate with his productions, the two new tracks have more in common with the more expansively voiced compositions on Emotional Response release Teen Hawk, or the cinematic melancholy of the untitled EP he released under the alias Lossmaker. Clearly Wyatt is building towards housing all his musical instincts under one roof.

Review: Valcrond Video presents the next work by sound and image artist Luke Wyatt, Songs From Bad Kid School.

On a high desert plain, inside a cinder block compound, a prank squad is incarcerated. Between fiddling with ninja stars and leafing through back issues of Fangoria, they find time to scrape out the soundtrack of their escape.
On the first track, heatsick guitars and steel wool beats suggest a landscape strewn with abandoned car carcasses, old Camaros left for dead in the sun, used for shotgun practice.

The B-side leads off with the beat-less, articulated sprawl of "Saline Flats". Here is the story of a desert search for water: figures warping mirage-like on the horizon as they make a confused journey over dunes, ending with a cathartic drone that suggests the mirages resolving into a real oasis. Though it is just as likely that the bad kids have expired from thirst, and ascended to the sublime.
