Review: Since first pricking our collective consciousness back in 2010, John Tye and Pete Fowler's Seahawks project has delivered a string of near-perfect albums. Escape Hatch is their 10th studio set to date, and sees them continue their pursuit of hazy, Balearic-minded downtempo perfection. In turns dreamy, soft-focus, psychedelic and effortlessly horizontal, it sees them meld their usual swirling chords, undulating grooves and atmospheric samples with a variety of influences (most notably classic ambient house, Tangerine Dream, new age synthesizer works, and original Berlin school pioneers). It's colourful, evocative and blissfully loved-up, in keeping with much of the duo's endlessly enjoyable back catalogue.

Review: Jon Tye and Pete Fowler's work together under the Seahawks banner is characterised by a few key elements; firstly they've been hugely prolific since first collaborating as Seahawks with no less than eight previous albums to their name. In addition, there's always a richness in texture and attention to detail which is unsurprising given Tye's work at the head of Lo Recordings and Fowler's respected career as an illustrator. With their cosmic brand of space rock and Balearica now down to a fine art, the latest Seahawks long player Paradise Freaks sees Tye and Fowler at their most ambitious with a high profile cast of supporting musicians that includes Maria Minerva, Tim Burgess, Indra Dunis of Peaking Lights and Hot Chip's Al Doyle and Grovesnor crooner Rob Smoughton. The resultant eight track set is as dreamy as you can hope for from the good ship Seahawks.

Review: Given the richness of texture that characterises Jon Tye and Pete Fowler's prolific work together under the Seahawks name, it's no surprise to see such a splendid cast of artists willing to dive in and play around with their music. And so we have Deep Haul, a collection of remixes, redubs, reworks and what not featuring the likes of Prins Thomas, Ruf Dug, Secret Circuit, Pye Corner Audio and more casting their sonic magic over some gems from the Seahawks discography. It's little surprise Scandolearic don Prins Thomas comes through with an early highlight in the shape of a deft electronic disco rework of "Look At The Sun" (that bassline) but don't brush over Rune Lindbaek's sub aquatic Balearic Italo take on "Rainbow Sun" or the charmingly warm Forever Sound remix of "Paradise Freaks".
