  2. Funnel Fiends
  3. Big Rig Barnacle
  4. Rubbish Bag Batting Cage
Review: The mechanical techno industrialisms of MORD continue to eat their way into 2013 and the juggernaut doesn't look like it's going to stop either. The fifth release for Bas Mooy's new label is fuelled by analogue-acid legend Paul Birken who turns in what's arguably his heaviest EP yet - and that's saying something. It's the ultimate four-tracker to annihilate the club. First, let the cyclic cyborg march of "Repeat Offender" barge its way in. This will allow "Funnel Fiends" to blow the roof off with its machine gun drums and staccato horns, while the big bad battering ram that is "Big Rig Barnacle" will take care of the dancefloor, allowing the self explanatory "Rubbish Bag Batting Cage" to take care of the rest. Goodnight.

  2. The Observer (5:19)
  3. The Mutant's Law (5:04)
  4. Antisystem (4:46)
  5. Hidden Head (4:21)
Review: While the dance music media has focused heavily on Italian techno in recent years, it has mainly been about the tranced out, hypnotic sound. There is a far more abrasive undercurrent in Italy - inspired undoubtedly by Rome's early 90s sound - one of whose main protagonists is Repitch boss D.Carbone. "Cultural Collapse" captures the sense of unease that surrounds Carbone as pile-driving kicks are fused with a distorted juggernaut rhythm. "The Observer" is less intense and revolves around a pulsing, strobo-groove, but it's only a temporary diversion. "The Mutant's Law" sees Carbone rain down acid-laced, distorted techno, while "Anti-system" is a coruscating, hollowed out peak time groove.

  8. Venerate Circles (7:05)
  9. Anom Valley (5:31)
Review: Anom Valley follows Damcase's recent outing on Bunker and positions the Greek producer as a leading light in hard techno. There is a rough, raw feel throughout this release for Bas Mooy's label; "Delete Scene" is mired in distorted kicks and noisy, barb wire percussion and both "Rusty" and "Towards Them" resound to titanium-powered steel drums. "Interlogon" is probably the most extreme track, thanks to its grisly, punishing rhythm, but Damcase also has a funkier side. He showcases this on "Rn 45" and "X Gun", where hypnotic electronic pulses, although encased in weeping layers of white noise, see him get his groove on.

  3. Shock Waves (5:31)
  4. Human Element (5:03)
Review: Since first pricking the consciousness of the international techno community with their 2001 debut 12" Zet Oviedo, Exium has become a reliable source of solid, often fiendishly dark dancefloor material. Here they add another label to their bulging discography via a debut on the similarly impressive Mord. There are few surprises, of course, but plenty of robust, thrusting floor-fillers. It's all of a reliably high standard, but we're particularly enjoying opener "Unipolar" - a maudlin chunk of throbbing darkroom funk complete with a nagging, rave-inspired riff - and the deeper, impressively trippy hypnotism of "Shock Waves". That said, the alien, acid-tinged closer "Human Element", may well be the best of the lot.

  1. Kontrola
  2. Kontrola (Bas Mooy remix)
  3. Trema
  4. Trema (Clouds remix)
Review: Milos Martinov follows last year's Misfit debut release on Mord with this equally dark record. "Trema" is exactly the kind of dense, rolling techno groove that you'd expect to hear on Bas Mooy's label, with grainy drums and a juggernaut rhythm prevailing. Clouds' remix ramps up the pressure further, a heavy, loopy affair that could be Ben Sims on steroids, while the label owner delivers a pounding, abrasive take on "Kontrola". However, it's the original version of this track that really stands out; less direct and upfront than the other tracks, it still captures the listener's attention thanks to its furious, lurching rhythm and disturbed, high-pitched vocal samples.

  4. Fair Trade Slave (6:05)
Review: Issued on Bas Mooy's Mord label, Mundi shows Radial has come into his own as a techno producer. "Storm Tide" kick starts the release with firing percussion, distorted, heavy drums and just the right amount of snarling attitude. "Boks" sees him make a diversion into a more swung sound. Like 2652 chewing on a mouthful of nails, the spiky broken betas and sparse, glitchy percussion show that the Dutch producer isn't afraid to think outside the box. This sense of experimentation is also audible on "Quarantine", where wave upon wave of drones are built over a spiky rhythm. He completes the package with the hypnotic pulses of "Fair Trade Slaves".

  2. Senza Titolo Two (3:56)
  3. Senza Titolo Three (5:54)
  4. Senza Titolo Four (4:54)
Review: Fashions and trends may come and go, but Roger Semstroth aka Sleeparchive's adherence to hypnotic underground techno remains a constant. It's funny to think that in the early days, it was rumoured that the project was an alias for Richie Hawtin. Nowadays no one could believe that, especially when the intense flurry of bleeps, blips and grimy pulses of "Senza Titolo 1" flow through the speakers. It's followed by the second "Titolo", where Semsroth brings up the tempo and adds in some hammering drums. The third instalment marks a divergence of sorts with its blasts of noise and visceral rhythm bearing echoes of Rob Hood, but it's only a temporary divergence and the fourth track is locked-on techno purism at its finest.

Review: Bass Mooy's Mord project has been steadily growing since its first EP last year, and this is thanks to a collective of new names and talents largely emanating from Holland's Rotterdam. This time it's Sebastien Michel aka UVB who churns out the goods for the imprint, and after already two EP's for Mord, he's basically become a regular. "Mixtion" is a jittery techno bomb filled with minimal melodies, wheras "Second Life" is almost orchestral thanks to its Population One-stylled sounds. On the flipside, "Anxiety is another slice of oddball noise futurism, and "Supertronic" is the militant bomb for total floor pulverisation. Gnarly as hell and shouldn't be missed.
