Review: Depending on how you look at it, this is either Omar's seventh album (officially)... Or his five-hundred and seventh (including the wedding recordings he's made which have since been bootlegged and sold across Syria and beyond). Constantly fusing cultures, his open-armed approach to both community and songwriting reaches a new peak with tracks such as the stomping tech-twists and loopy designs of "Tawwalt El Gheba" and the frenetic, sweaty melting pot "Leil El Bareh". As disparate as the elements seem on paper, Omar's vocals and his band (many of whom he's written and performed with since the early '90s) create a consistency that ties everything together with powerful musicianship that transcends all national, culture and genre boundaries.

Review: Prolific Monkeytown resident Siriusmo makes a welcome return to Modeselektor's patch after the widespread success of his 2011 LP Mosaik. The same love for full-bodied electro synths abounds, played out with that playful energy and a knack for combining a sense of humour with serious studio skills. Just look at the Daft Punk baiting disco funk of "Congratulator" for proof of how Siriusmo can easily straddle the sublime and the silly, or get twisted up to the delirious ghetto swagger of "Cornerboy". Whenever you need a breath of fresh air and a little fun in your ears, you can always turn to Siriusmo to blow away those tedious notions of serious mood pieces and drop some dirty ass beats.

Review: For fans of Rene Pawlowitz's distinctive brand of techno, this album has been a long time coming. The Final Experiment - named in honour of a label he established a few years ago, rather than as a hint at imminent retirement - appears five years after the acclaimed The Killer. Predictably, it more than justifies the epic wait. Hugely evocative, brilliantly produced and packed full of sublime moments, it sees Pawlowitz supplement his off-kilter techno sounds - see the dub-flecked broken techno shuffle of "Turn 2 Turn", acid-fired melancholy of "Taken Effekt", sludgy "Black Heart", and the breakbeat-driven late night bliss of "Outgoing Society" - with a string of wonderfully emotion-rich, downtempo explorations. Of these, it's the cinematic ambient moodiness of "Xtra" and glistening "Extreme Sat" that stand out.

Review: Given the hype that surrounded the release of the first Moderat set back in 2009, we can surely expect more of the same for this second outing from Apparat and Modeselektor. Those familiar with the first album's woozy blend of IDM, Thom Yorke indebted vocal dreaminess, porchlight techno and post-dubstep rhythms will immediately feel right at home. Online reviews have focused largely on II's atmospheric warmth, and the way in which the Berlin-based trio seems to have refined their sound. Both are valid critiques; certainly, there's a maturity and musical complexity to the album that betters much of their previous works. It's not much of a dancefloor set, but that's entirely the point; this is locked-in headphone listening for the wide-eyed generation.

Review: Gatefold 2LP ediiton: While their 50 Weapons imprint may be winding up, Modeselektor's Monkeytown imprint is still in full swing, releasing all sorts of interesting electronic music lately from producers as diverse as Robot Koch, Omar Souleyman and Howling. This time label head honchos Bronsert and Szary team up with good mate Sascha Ring aka Apparat for another session as well.. Moderat, of course! Highlights include the bittersweet and bass heavy pop inflections of "Bad Kingdom" featuring Ring's powerful vocals, the epically future beats of "Let In The Light" or "Ilona" and the upbeat dusty deep house of "Milk". Superb production on display throughout the album and don't forget to check out the killer remixes by Skee Mask and Benjamin Damage (amongst others) available soon as well.

Review: Moderat's newest album III is out and the second single to be released by the amazing trio of Gernot Bronsert, Sascha Ring and Sebastian Szary is "Running", an emotive pop inflected electronica number showing off (mainly) the fine vocal talents of Ring whose emotional performance is electrifying! On the flip is "90% Wasser" a sombre broken beat number with cinematic qualities; just as emotive with its soaring strings later that build up to an amazing crescendo.

Review: Given the reception to 2012 Innervisions hit "Howling", it's no surprise the label's co-founder Frank 'Ame' Wiedemann has been persuaded to further explore his creative relationship with singer Ry X. Now operating as Howling, Sacred Ground arrives through Monkeytown and Counter Records and sees the Australian singer and Wiedemann expand on the template set by that Innervisions hit over 12 tracks. Think a subtle and alluring blend of strings, organs, synths, field recordings, and of course Ry X's voice - no sign of their Nirvana cover though sadly. Expect to hear this a lot over the coming months.

Review: Funkstorung have been releasing acid-driven techno since the mid 1990's and although they've kept a below-commercial status over the last few years, they certainly haven't gone anywhere. Germany's Monkeytown welcomes them back to the surface of the scene with their latest LP, a fourteen-track journey through vast planes of electronica and sparse bass explorations. Compared to their older material, tracks like "IATC", "So Simple" featuring Jamie Lidell, and "CHNNL" are considerably softer and more pensive, opting instead to delve into your mind by means of melody and soulfulness rather than brute beat anger. A breath of fresh air!

Review: As if releasing their third album wasn't enough, Modeselektor are also busy releasing music on their label, and Elan steps up to deliver some flavoursome electro stylings. "Blackout" is a joyful mixture of dystopian sci-fi grind rubbing up against treated boogie bass in an undeniably funky melting pot. If you ever got down to Dabrye, just you try resisting this release. "Down 4 You" particularly shines with its insistent bump and gently detuning VHS synths. Meanwhile the bossmen (Modeselektor) turn in a surprisingly short and sweet remix that serves as a pleasant bookend rather than a show stealer.

Review: It's fair to say that Dark Sky's reputation has rocketed in the three years since the release of their debut album, Imagin; so much so, in fact, that Othona, their sophomore set, has the feel of an "event" release. It's certainly impressive, and sees the London-based trio lay down a range of cuts that various explore post-dubstep electronica, Afro-influenced grooves, ghostly ambience, exotic tropical techno, electro-jazz and fluid, hard-to-pigeonhole soundscapes. This time round, there's a greater emphasis in fusing jammed-out, live electronics with more traditional percussion and instrumentation, but the trio's grasp of atmosphere and melody remains intact.

Review: London's Dark Sky trio have come a long way over the last three years, first appearing on the mighty 50 Weapons, then jumping on to Mister Saturday Night's catalogue, and now landing most vertically on Germany's Monkeytown - quite impressive if you ask us! The NTS Radio residents serve up "Voyages", a wonky techno side-stepper complete with tribal percussion and a distinct UK feel. Remix duties are taken care of by Francis Inferno Orchestra, who deliver a hypnotic and floor-ready version of the original, and techno God Reshape with his slithering, ultra-stripped back version. Another class act from Monkeytown camp.

Review: Ahead of his debut album dropping on Monkeytown, Alex Banks gives the world a sneak peek at the sound he has been conjuring up by way of this single. The title track features the haunting vocal tones of Elizabeth Bernholz, whose siren song peals out over a frenetic mash of electronic beat mangling that calls to mind earlier strains of Clark. "Phosphorus" also gets busy in the edit, as infinitesimal sonic details bounce off of each other with the swagger of 2-step and some emotive synth work. Phon O reworks "All You Could Do" with a taut, stepping techno rhythm and a hopeful synth lilt, while Banks himself offers up an alternative version that moves in a slower, more spacious manner compared to the original.

Review: Lars "Anstam" Stoewe has long been part of Modeselektor's extended family of artists, releasing his first two albums on their 50 Weapons label. While those first two sets were characterized by a desire to blend punishing dancefloor rhytms with elements of IDM and dark ambience, Names - his third LP - is a largely more considered affair, with shards of light amongst the gathering gloom. Of course, he's not totally abandoned the skittering rhythms and maudlin basslines - see the sweeping chords and intense beats of "I Stopped Counting" and the rushing post-dubstep blast of "Fragments of the Good Old Days" - but these moments are countered by hazy songs and sweet soundscapes, with the superb "The Obvious & The Impeccable" standing out.
