  2. Peza - "Black Gold" (6:23)
  3. Fabiolous Barker - "The Paradise" (6:37)
  4. Rayko - "The Jam" (5:55)
Review: Yam Who?'s Midnight Riot is back with another volume of funky, party starting edits, so come and get your fix. Aashton's "Pride" samples the diva vocals of you know who on this smooth and soulful number. Peza's "Black Gold" is pure classic disco, reminiscent of Salsoul, possibly? Fabiolous Barker's "The Paradise" has that retro and Balearic vibe that fans of labels like Love On The Rocks and Efficient Space will certainly dig. "The Jam" by Rayko is a re-edit of you guessed it: Technotronic's "Pump Up The Jam".

Big Bang Theory and Heart & Soul main man Seamus Haji was worked with some of the biggest names in dance music and throws down some right funky disco loops for your pleasure on "24-7 (Reloved)", Big Danny Kane serves up some deep disco boogie-down vibes on the gorgeous "Rock Me" also on the A side. On the flip we've got "Rescue My Love" by Argentinian Fabiolous Barker, a lovely serving of vintage disco delight; but we're not telling who he's done an edit of here so keep diggin'! 1. LNTG - "Wonderland"
  2. 80's Child - "Contragious"
  3. TV - "Disco Scene"
  4. Digital Human - "You're My Last Chance"
Review: Midnight Riot up the anticipation ante for their forthcoming album with this quirky quad of modern day disco floor-firers. Late Nite Tuff Guy amplifies the teasing nature of this EP as he stretches and extends "Boogie Wonderland" in a way that's almost cruel... Looping up the bassline and vocal snippets for what seems like an eternity, he finally unleashes the full hook. And does so with evangelistic effect! 80s Child follows with a synth-heavy re-edit of The Whispers' "Contagious" where the bass is so fat it should come with its own health warning. Further on TV's "Disco Scene" employs some classic Akai action, playing merry hell with a vocal sample of a loopy percussive groove. Finally Digital Human closes the curtains with the synth-boogie strutter "You're My Last Chance"

Review: Late last year Yam Who's Midnight Riot label continued their efforts to profile the birth of Chicago House in their own distinct way, compiling a digital album edits, reworks and homages to classics from the iconic Hot Mix 5 DJ crew consisting of Mickey 'Mixin' Oliver, Farley 'Jackmaster Funk', Ralphi 'Rockin' Rosario, Kenny 'Jammin' Jason and Scott 'Smokin' Silz and their associated label. A clutch of the finest contributions now feature on what we assume is the first in a series of 12" samplers which finds Hot Mix 5 pearlers from Ralphi Rosario, Kenny 'Jammin' Jason, MG2 and Mario Diaz given a fresh take by Ron Basejam, Kiko Navarro, Horse Meat Disco's Severino and Leo Zero.

Review: Those well versed in the history of dance music will know the story of the Hot Mix 5, the DJ tag team, radio hosts and label owners whose enthusiasm for the "warehouse sound" helped shape Chicago House throughout the 1980s. This compilation from Midnight Riot pays tribute to the crew, delivering two-discs packed with brand new re-edits and remixes of vintage Hot Mix 5 Records material. It's a hugely enjoyable listen, boasting contemporary tweaks from the likes of Fingerman, Kiko Navarro, Severino, Leo Zero and '80s Child that pay due reverence to the spine-tingling source material. Brilliantly, plenty of lesser-known Chi-Town classics get the scalpel treatment, though it's Crazy P man Ron Basejam's radical overhaul of Ralphi Rosario's "You Used To Hold Me" - complete with toasty new instrumentation - that really stands out.
